Alaska Fishing Regulations
Without a doubt, the Alaska fishing regulations are more challenging and more numerous than any other place I’ve fished. Don’t let that statement scare you away though. Perhaps that is because Alaska is so vast and there are so many species to fish for. Regardless, many of the Alaska fishing regulations vary by region and since we’re only really focusing on one region, you only need to focus on a small subset of those regulations.
The Alaska fishing regulations are very “cut and dried” and don’t need any further clarification. I’ll be referring you to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game website in a minute to educate yourself on the Alaska fishing regulations that will apply to you.
First and foremost is your fishing license. I recommend purchasing your Alaska fishing license online from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game website. Whether you choose to follow my advice and buy online or wait until you reach Alaska, please make sure to be on the “up and up” and buy your license. I’ve never had anyone ask to see my license but I count it a privilege to fish in Alaska and I know my money goes to preserve that beautiful fishery.
Now, all you need to do is spend time on the main Sport Fishing Regulations website and learn the statewide regulations. After you have absorbed that, then click on the blue section of the map on that page which will take you to another section dedicated to the “Southcentral Alaska” region which is where we are focused. Once you get to that page, you can click on additional areas on this map such as the Kenai Peninsula, Anchorage Bowl and Knik Arm. Those three areas are where I have been focused for this entire discussion.
